Children of Promise, NYC’s (CPNYC) reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their full potential. CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty. and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system. CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children’s centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child’s individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and mission-driven Grant Writer to join our team at Children of Promise, NYC. The Grant Writer will play a critical role in advancing our mission by securing funding through the development of compelling grant proposals, reports, and supporting materials. This position is responsible for identifying grant opportunities, managing application timelines, and maintaining relationships with public and private funders.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and strategic thinker with a passion for youth development and community impact. They should have a proven track record of successful grant writing, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to gather the information needed for competitive proposals.

EDUCATION/LICENSE EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of grant writing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising and grant writing.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.

SKILLS & KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, identify, and evaluate public and private grant opportunities that align with the agency’s programs and strategic goals.
  • Develop high-quality, persuasive proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant applications tailored to funders’ guidelines and priorities.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, and leadership staff to gather necessary information and data for proposals and reports.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports and renewals for existing grants, ensuring compliance with all funder requirements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grant calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with foundations, corporate funders, and government agencies through clear and professional communication.
  • Monitor trends in philanthropy and youth development funding to inform proposal strategy and development.
  • Assist with donor communications and storytelling efforts that showcase impact and align with funder interests.
