Description
Description Embarcadero Media Foundation, producers of the Palo Alto Weekly, The Almanac, Pleasanton Weekly and several other community websites, is looking for a graphic designer to join its award-winning design team. Design opportunities include online and print ad design and editorial page layout. Applicant must be fluent in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Newspaper or previous experience in publishing or advertising is preferred, but we will consider qualified — including entry level — candidates. Most importantly, the designer must be a team player and demonstrate speed, accuracy and thrive under deadline pressure. The position will be approximately 15 hours per week, Tues.-Thurs. during regular business hours. It is a non-benefited position. Work can be done remotely, on-site at our Palo Alto office, or hybrid. This position is a unionized role and is covered by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Requirements Strong typography, layout and visual design skills. Strong proofreading and copy editing skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet daily deadlines. Understanding of brand consistency and visual standards across print and digital platforms. Ability to take creative direction and incorporate feedback efficiently. Excellent file-management and production-ready preparation skills. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with editors, sales staff and other designers. Familiarity with digital asset management and basic pre-press processes. Comfort working in a fast-paced newsroom environment with shifting priorities. To apply, please provide a resume, cover letter and 3-5 samples of your work as a PDF or URL here or email Design Manager Kristin Brown at kbrown@paweekly.com.
