The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary Reporting to the AMS Marketing Office, the Graphic Designer is responsible for producing high-quality visual content to support AMS-wide campaigns, services, and events. This role creates digital and print assets such as posters, social media graphics, merchandise mockups, signage, and promotional materials. Working closely with the Marketing team—including the Director of Marketing and the Social Media Supervisor—the Graphic Designer ensures consistency with AMS branding while also bringing fresh creative ideas to the table. The Graphic Designer is expected to handle multiple design projects at once while meeting deadlines and responding to feedback in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. A strong visual eye, attention to detail, and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities are essential in this role. Job Description 15 hours/week Designs visual content for social media, print, merchandise, digital signage, and event promotion Ensures all materials align with the AMS brand guidelines and visual identity Formats assets for different platforms (Instagram posts/stories, website banners, posters, etc.) Supports other departments with design requests as approved by the Director of Marketing Revises existing designs based on team or stakeholder feedback Prepares print-ready files when needed (e.g. for signage or merchandise) Assists in maintaining design asset libraries and templates Collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Social Media Supervisor on campaign visuals Maintains an organized and efficient design workflow using cloud storage and project trackers Other duties as assigned Job Requirements Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) and Canva Pro Strong visual design skills, with an understanding of typography, layout, and color theory Familiarity with adapting content for both digital and print media Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously Ability to receive, interpret, and apply constructive feedback Strong communication skills and the ability to explain design decisions when needed Previous experience in design work (student groups, freelance, or professional) considered an asset Familiarity MS (Teams, Excel, Words) Workspace Work Conditions Interaction with AMS staff and student stakeholders across multiple departments Working in an office environment, with the possibility of remote/hybrid arrangements Use of desktop/laptop computers and design peripherals Collaboration using shared drives and digital task management tools The AMS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of age, race, religion, colour, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
