CITY OF GREENBELT, MD CLASS SPECIFICATION CLASS TITLE: DEPARTMENT: Greenbelt Learn 2 Earn Seasonal Intern                                Recreation SALARY GRADE: 1 FLSA STATUS: NE REPORTS TO: Recreation Program Supervisor DATE: 03/2026   JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK: THE GREENBELT LEARN 2 EARN PROGRAM IS SEEKING MOTIVATED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN PROFESSIONAL OFFICE ENVIRONMENTS. INTERNS WILL GAIN VALUABLE WORK EXPERIENCE WHILE DEVELOPING ESSENTIAL WORKPLACE SKILLS SUCH AS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT, MARKETING ASSISTANCE, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DATA MANAGEMENT. THIS POSITION IS IDEAL FOR STUDENTS LOOKING TO ENHANCE THEIR COMMUNICATION, ORGANIZATIONAL, AND TECHNICAL ABILITIES IN A REAL-WORLD SETTING.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.     DESIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:   N/A   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:     SKILLS: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and social media platforms. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.   MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:   Ability to work without close supervision.   Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with colleagues, instructors, and community partners. Good listening skills and a creative, solution-oriented mindset. Ability to provide effective one-on-one assistance to program participants and instructors, if applicable.   Steady leadership combined with adaptability. Readiness to adjust planned activities as needed based on factors such as instructor absence, inclement weather or public health conditions. Ability to communicate promptly by email, text, and/or phone.   Ability to adjust one’s work schedule to accommodate occasional program needs.     WORKING CONDITIONS:   Work is typically performed in and around the City of Greenbelt. Some placements may require the ability to sit, stand, walk, or engage in physical activity for extended periods, particularly in outdoor settings.   NOTE: This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
