The Greenhouse Manager is a critical role in our team’s leadership. They are responsible for the daily operation of our greenhouses and high tunnels used for vegetable crop and transplant production. This responsibility oversees all workflow and tasks related to the seeding and care of transplants, transplanting, crop care and harvest of crops and climatic conditions within structures. This includes communicating with the production manager, maintaining facility cleanliness and organization, adhering to and enforcing worker safety and food safety protocols, training and setting the pace for tasks and quality, integrated pest and nutrition management, equipment and facility maintenance, forecasting product availability and executing plans to meet the targeted production and sales goals.
The Greenhouse Manager will collaborate closely with the production manager to ensure the operation is meeting the targeted goals. This position will require ongoing communication with the Field Manager and Harvest Superisor regarding priorities and resource (labor and equipment) allocation. The Greenhouse Manager will direct a team of greenhouse workers and/or farm-hands depending on tasks. The majority of crop care activities are completed by hand with a few exceptions requiring tractor work. While we do our best to be ergonomic, farm work still involves long hours spent standing, bending, squatting and kneeling in all weather conditions while carrying out repetitive tasks. At times during the season, the Greenhouse Manager role will be flexible to assist with other farm tasks. This position is essential for production; the candidate must commit to at least a full season of employment.
Long English and Mini English Cucumbers, Cherry and Beefsteak Tomatoes, Bell, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Eggplant, Microgreens and Basil are the main greenhouse crops. Additionally, our greenhouses produce transplants for both field production and our annual spring plant sale, as well as manage the nursery plant stock.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in farming and at least one year of greenhouse or agricultural work experience. You are a self-motivated, results-oriented person with a positive attitude who can effectively communicate and work comfortably in a fast-paced farm environment. You enjoy being outside, working as part of a team, paying attention to detail and standards, and performing a variety of farm-related tasks.
