The Greening Program Supervisor will promote the Community Greening and Environment Program initiatives and ensure goals and priorities are met. Through workshops, programs, and educational resources, the Greening Supervisor will help increase local knowledge on greening and environmental issues and awareness of food security. The Greening & Environment Supervisor oversees the following initiatives:
Yard Works, Snowbank and Good Food Bag Programs
Community Gardens
Student Worker(s)
Active Transportation
Safety
New program creation

QUALIFICATIONS

· Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Agriculture or Environmental Sciences and/or a minimum 2 years direct greening or community garden experience (preferred)
· Knowledge of greening and environmental issues
· Demonstrated project administration and management, time management skills, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while giving attention to detail;
· Empathy and experience with supporting and working with older, disabled people or marginalized populations, children, and families
· Mentorship and advising experience
· Knowledge and experience in community development approaches and practices
· Understanding of inner-city neighbourhoods, personal and systemic barriers
· Self-directed with exceptional organizational and follow-through skills
· Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft applications
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact with staff and the general public
· Pro-Active leader with the ability to take initiative, work independently, problem solve, and work collaboratively with staff and others
· Ability to produce written and visual content for publication
· Ability to work some evenings and weekends
· Background in community-based planning and community initiatives implementation is an asset
· Experience with non-profit organizations is an asset
· Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods is an asset
· Valid Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract is a strict requirement
· Access to a vehicle if needed (Preferred, though WERC has our own van)
· Current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
· Maintain the legal authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the contract

Responsibilities

· Work with local partners and the City of Winnipeg to plan better maintenance and redevelopment of local parks/green space.
· Plan and schedule neighbourhood greening workshop series covering sustainable lawn care, composting, basic gardening, starting seeds, canning, drying, preserving, green/sustainable home maintenance, etc.
· Work on the development of more community gardens in the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews neighbourhood.
· Lead, schedule, and ensure the safety of teams of seasonal or project-based volunteers and employees.
· Coordinate and support local greening and environment initiatives including the community garden program, community compost program, spring clean-up, etc.
· Assist with community BBQ’s and the planning, development, and implementation of summer events, including other activities such as festivals and the AGM.
· Outreach, network and partner with community environmental greening and food security stakeholders including other community organisations, government representatives, local businesses and community residents; develop and maintain a contact list.
· Advocate and promote active transportation through programs and educational resources
· Research and develop new funding relationships; maintain and enhance current partnerships while developing new connections with relevant organizations and businesses
· Develop and write funding proposals (in collaboration with WERC management)
· Develop fundraising initiatives throughout the fiscal year; set goals to raise additional funding to support Greening & Environment programming
· Prepare and submit monthly program progress reports, statistical data, and measurable outcomes
· Manage and maintain program budgets; ensure copies of receipts are filed and cheque requests are submitted
· Conduct evaluations of programs and services; routinely seek out feedback from participants through surveys and adjust services based on feedback received
· Ensure all relevant health and safety standards are met in relation to personal safety, the safety of volunteers, and members of the public
· Adhere to the organizations respect policy and maintain a respectable and friendly work environment
