Hess Services, Inc. is hiring a dependable Grit Blaster to prepare parts and materials for coating and fabrication. This role is critical to the quality of our finished work. You’ll be responsible for blasting parts to spec, following safety procedures, and keeping your work area clean and organized. Other duties may be assigned. Operating high pressure hoses to blast surfaces of tanks or small parts to prepare for paint. Sandblasting equipment or tanks. May be indoors or outdoors based on size of project. Checks in with supervisor for jobs to start, as needed. Comply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Secures tools, materials and equipment at end of day. Regular attendance and timeliness. Performs additional duties as needed. Additional Responsibilities Apply chemical compounds, use hazardous chemicals to clean equipment, deposit the hazardous material into designated containers for reclaim. Additional hazardous waste activities may include, with further training, operating the solvent reclaimer, conducting weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage areas, reviewing/signing waste disposal manifests, moving hazardous waste containers to storage area, cleanup of minor chemical/hazardous waste spills. Requirements Qualifications and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to customers, coworkers and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and job instructions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to use hand tools. Ability to use power tools, such as drill and saw. Ability to use department equipment such as coating and blasting equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds for women or 50 pounds for men. Employee is to wear required PPE such as fresh air hoods, ear/eye/hand protection and paint suits. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently high.
