Buy Low Discount has an opening for a Grocery Manager for our store located in Nanaimo, BC. This is a full-time role which reports to the Store Manager.
Department Managers lead the team in their department to provide excellent customer service in our busy grocery store.
We are looking for a strong leader who has a passion for fresh food and who can efficiently oversee the daily operations of the Grocery Department in terms of staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and product quality.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Previous retail grocery experience, preferably at a supervisory level
· Complete understanding of cash register operation and cash up procedures
· Above average communication, interpersonal & conflict resolution skills
· Demonstrated ability to build a positive, cohesive team within the store
· Ability to work well in a fast paced environment
· Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide a great shopping experience
· Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including: Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings & Weekends
· Proven track record as a self-starter; dedicated and goal orientated
· Ability to ensure compliance of established company policies
· Excellent command of the English language both verbal and written

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Walking and standing for extended periods including bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling at times
· Must be able to be on your feet for up to an entire 8-hour shift
· Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive physical tasks for extended periods of time
· Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail and hand-eye co-ordination

Responsibilities

· Work within established rules and guidelines for the Grocery Department regarding Inventory, Invoicing, Ordering, Receiving, Pricing, Staffing and Training, etc.
· Efficiently stock and display product in a neat and appealing manner
· Responsible for ensuring accuracy of department signage with regards to pricing
· Ensure proper set up of counters, racks, tables, coolers and backroom areas
· Responsible for key-holding, store safe and store alarm
· Creation of weekly department work schedules
· Monitor staff performance and participate in coaching meetings
· Manage and motivate the team to increase sales, meet targets and exceed budgeted goals, while ensuring operational efficiency
· Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
· Assist with maintaining store staffing levels to meet the needs of our customers, while operating within budgeted wage costs
· Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets
· Handle customer inquiries, requests & complaints in a prompt, polite & effective manner
· Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner
· Provide a safe and clean store environment to protect both staff and customers
· Comply with the Company’s established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies
· Liaise with the store manager, department heads and staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming ads or promotions, cross merchandising, etc
