Status: Level I, General Staff, Supervised by Grocery Manager Responsibilities: CUSTOMER SERVICE Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary. Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all. Participate in customer service trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed. Working knowledge of the products we carry and where they are located. Assist customers with suggestions and ways to use/prepare products. Help customers place special orders, field customer phone calls. STOCKING Replenish and rotate displays, bins and shelves using FIFO (first in, first out). Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves. Label items accurately with price tags and signs. Work as part of team and establish priorities to curate aesthetically pleasing displays. Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods appropriately (compost whenever possible). Remove trash, clean cases, and keep storage areas clean and orderly. Maintain stocking lists & tasks for later shifts. Notify Buyers of out-of-stocks. Help train new subs, stockers, and Member Volunteers through shadowing. RECEIVING Check deliveries to verify piece count; notify Buyers of discrepancies. Check for damage and unacceptable quality; notify Buyers of problems. Help with unloading as needed. Route invoices to Buyers. Rotate overstock into storage. Update stocking list as orders come in. Immediately move refrigerated or frozen deliveries to designated coolers and freezers DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage records. Ensure that carts, aisles, shelves and storage areas are clean, orderly, and meet health standards. Remove trash promptly; sweep floor and spot mop as needed. Participate in inventory counts. Ensure maintenance of department equipment and notify manager if equipment breaks or needs repair. Remove recycling, trash, and empty crates promptly; clean as needed or coordinate with cleaners, or other staff. Break down cardboard and place into bailer. SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES Follow GreenStar’s safety rules. Assist other employees in safety needs. Report unsafe equipment and conditions. Participate in safety training programs, assist with accident investigation. Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed. Read GreenStar publications to stay informed. Read, respect and comply with storewide personnel policies. Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made. Adhere to scheduled shifts. Support all Grocery Sub-Departments as needed on any given scheduled shift. *Wellness support is stocking only, product recommendations provide by Wellness Specialists only. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Communication – effective interpersonal communication with team members, verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments. Open to input/feedback on work performance. Open to giving input/feedback on Grocery department and GreenStar. Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift. Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, products, local vendors. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize. Ability to lift 50 lbs pounds continuously, up to 75 lbs periodically Ability to handle raw and packaged animal products (meats, eggs, dairy, etc.) Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures.
