PETCHES FARM, A BUSY STUD PRODUCING THOROUGHBRED FOALS FOR FLAT RACING IN THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH ESSEX COUNTRYSIDE, NEAR FINCHINGFIELD, IS SEEKING EXPERIENCED STUD HANDS TO JOIN THEM IN THEIR FRIENDLY, FAMILY-RUN BREEDING OPERATION.

The ideal candidates will be passionate about equine care, self-motivated, well-organised, able to take responsibility and have experience of working with Thoroughbreds.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Physical fitness and ability to work in all weathers.
  • Ability to work at Senior Stud Hand level.
  • Good communication and time-management skills, with a positive attitude towards the flexible hours needed to maintain the efficient operation of the stud.
  • A clean current driving license.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Experience of working with yearlings.
  • Experience with other farm animals, in particular, cattle.
  • Ability to operate agricultural machinery.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We offer competitive renumeration, based on experience, plus pension and the opportunity to join a company health insurance scheme after three months. Accommodation can be provided. This role may suit an equine couple looking for a friendly working environment. References will be required.

  • Provide high-quality care to horses, including feeding, grooming, mucking out and general handling, including youngstock.
  • Assist with foalings and monitoring of mares due to foal.
  • Preparation of foals for the sales.
  • Preparation and transportation of mares for covering.
  • Provide support in the general upkeep of the stud grounds and buildings, as necessary.
