Primary Function/General Purpose of Position Ground Paramedic provides direct patient care and transportation when responding to both emergent and non-emergent calls for service. Ground Paramedic operates within all federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization and applicable Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols. Essential Job Functions ​Responds to calls, performs ALS patient assessment and triage Performs indicated Advanced Life Support procedures as per the appropriate EMS Protocols under the direction of the Medical Control Physician, through standing orders or radio/phone communications. Ensures that vehicles and equipment are ready for use at the beginning and end of shift. Operates all vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Provides high level of customer service to all patients, patient’s families, community providers, visitors, and employees. Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress. Accommodates and trains new staff and/or students for orientation and/or educational purposes. Completes all documentation on behalf of students/orientees. Maintains knowledge of policies, procedures, and EMS Protocols. Licensing/Certification Current paramedic-level certification (required) RSFH requires National Registry Valid State Driver’s License (Required) BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (Required) ACLS – AHA (Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association) (Required) PALS – AHA (Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association) (Preferred upon hire, Required within 6 months of hire) NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) (Preferred upon hire, Required within 6 months of hire) (Not required for RSFH) Education High School Diploma or GED (Required) Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (Required) Work Experience 1 Year of Paramedic Experience (Preferred) Training Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) – (Preferred upon hire, Required within 1 year of hire) (Required at time of hire for RSFH) ICS 100 & ICS 700 (Preferred) Skills Computer Literacy Monitor patient conditions during transport Inform medical professional regarding patient conditions and care Record patients’ medical history CPR Patient positioning Patient transport Customer service Patient care Perform EKG Splinting Wound care Obtaining vital signs, including manual blood pressure Attention to detail Problem solving Working independently Working under pressure Critical thinking Communication Teamwork Conflict resolution Active listening Relationship building Empathy Yank Auer suctioning IV insertion IV removal IV site care Transport on monitor Medication administration Medication drip administration and monitoring Basic airway management Cardiac monitor strip interpretation all rhythms per scope of practice and defibrillation Hours: Shift: All Shifts Hours per pay period: 84 Weekend, holiday and on-call rotation required per department policy This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job.
