SEASONAL GROUNDSWORKER - This position is set aside for a person with a disability. You must be able to provide proof of a disability to be considered for an interview for this role. The hours for this position are: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm The pay rate for this position is $17.20 per hour Melwood’s Vision: A world where people with differing abilities are fully included Melwood’s Mission: Melwood Advocates for and empowers individuals of differing abilities to transform their own lives through unique opportunities to work and play in the community INTRODUCTION Under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, performs those grounds tasks necessary to meet Landscape contract specifications. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES *1. Cuts lawns, using hand mower or power mower. *2. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls, using clippers and edging tools. 3. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears. *4. Rakes leaves and cleans or sweeps up litter using spiked stick or broom. 5. Shovels snow from walks and driveways. 6. Spreads salt on public passage ways. *7. Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs. 8. Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system. *9. Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake. 10. May operate walking type power mowers, snow blowers, roto tillers or riding mowers. 11. May operate chain saws, hedge trimmers and other hand held power operated tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim, cut and dig. 12. May use tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders and lawn roller. 13. May perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed. 14. Other duties as assigned. *Essential Functions PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS The incumbent must be able to stand 33%, walk 33% and sit 33% of the work time. These requirements are necessary to operate riding mowers to cut and trim grass, plant vegetation, rake, shovel, etc. He/she must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle, in order to load and unload materials and equipment; must be able to alert oneself to safety hazards and have a method of communication so those around can understand and respond; must be able to see and tell colors, as driving and operating power equipment is required. Mainly work outside. Working conditions are subject to extreme temperature and weather conditions. Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass). Due to the nature of work, occasionally heavy lifting is involved, require lifting and handling of heavy equipment. Lifting materials such as flats, mulch, fertilizer, lime, seed and related items weighing up to 100 pounds. QUALIFICATIONS At least 1 year of experience in Landscape maintenance work including experience in mowing with push mower and weeding. Should be able to provide own transportation to work site. Must be able to work independently.
