As a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker, you’ll assist with the care, upkeep, and improvement of the City’s parks, recreation facilities, athletic fields, and public open spaces. This entry-level seasonal position performs a wide range of maintenance duties involving grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Typical work includes mowing and maintaining athletic fields and open spaces; caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf; maintaining irrigation systems; inspecting and repairing playgrounds and park amenities; performing minor building maintenance; and supporting recreation programs and special events. Work is performed primarily outdoors in all types of weather and generally involves full-time hours, with schedules that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs (with summer flexibility). This role offers variety, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to see the immediate impact of your work throughout the community. To be successful in this role, you should: Be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions Be able to perform physical labor for extended periods, including lifting, digging, shoveling, raking, mowing, and standing or walking for long durations Be reliable, organized, and able to follow established routines, schedules, and safety procedures Be able to work independently or as part of a team Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Basic knowledge of equipment, materials, and methods used in grounds and facility maintenance Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, lawn and turf equipment, and maintenance machinery Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions Typical duties may include (but are not limited to): Mowing and maintaining parks, athletic fields, and open spaces Maintaining irrigation systems and assisting with sprinkler repair and installation Inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining playground equipment, courts, park furniture, restrooms, and drinking fountains Performing minor building maintenance such as painting, basic plumbing, carpentry, and fence repairs Planting, pruning, fertilizing, seeding, watering, and general landscape care Assisting with setup and teardown for recreation programs, sports facilities, and special events Supporting construction and improvement of park facilities, including playground installation Special Requirements: Valid state driver’s license required Ability to drive standard transmission vehicles
