We are currently seeking a hardworking and reliable Grounds Maintenance Operative. This is a hands-on, outdoor role requiring applicants to be physically fit and capable of performing a wide range of duties in all weather conditions. REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual work in all weather conditions
  • Experience in grounds maintenance is desirable, though full training will be provided
  • Full driving license
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety practices
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative, and following schedules
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow schedules set out for the assigned run and ensure all tasks are completed on time
  • Operate rotary mowers, ride-on mowers, strimmers, and other equipment to maintain grassed areas
  • Weed spray with appropriate chemicals and perform general garden maintenance, including weeding and leaf clearance year-round
  • Maintain hedges, shrubs, and other plants, ensuring they are trimmed and tidy
  • Sweep paths, tidy up areas after work, and clear litter before and after grass cutting
  • Remove epicormic growth and carry out bed maintenance
  • Assist with planting and landscaping projects as needed
  • Perform hardstanding maintenance and sweep kerbs
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety procedures are followed, including wearing PPE, handling chemicals safely (COSHH), and safe operation and storage of equipment
  • Complete work certificates for jobs and update schedules as required
  • Report and deal with emergency works and any site-specific issues such as bulky waste or graffiti
  • Keep company equipment, vehicles, and tools clean and tidy, and conduct regular safety checks
  • Use Timegate to sign in and out, track progress, and document work with before and after photos
  • Report any incidents or concerns to the Contracts Manager/Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensuring company vehicles are securely parked and checked for oil, tyres, etc.
  • Conducting a common-sense risk assessment before commencing work
  • Placing safety signs/cones as required on site
  • Maintaining a communication line with the office for updates and changes to work schedules
  • Reporting any issues to the supervisor and management
