It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work Salary Range: $32639-$57117 This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC. This is skilled supervisory work in the upkeep of lawns and grounds surrounding state institutions or buildings. Positions furnish technical guidance and supervision to grounds crews engaged in the construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Management Preferences: Considerable knowledge of the horticultural practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds. Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscape work. Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes. Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC05.
