It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range: $32,639 - $57,117 Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor IV, this position will be responsible for mowing grass, re-seeding, fertilizing, liming, and repairing any washed-out areas of the facility grounds. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. - Maintaining lawn mowers, equipment, hand tools, tractors, trucks, and all related equipment. - Picking up paper and debris from around the buildings, flat roofs, roadsides, and highways. - Checking offenders in and out of unit for work detail and ensuring they are properly dressed for work. - Requisitioning repair parts, ordering data on new equipment for replacement, and ordering fuel, motor oils, filters for tractors, and other assigned equipment. - Marking gas cans for different mixtures and assuring that they are stored in the proper location. - Working with supervisor in planning and coordinating new projects. - Implementing changes in safety and security procedures. - Performing work assignments independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. - Reviewing completed work for quality and compliance with work orders. - Supervising offender workers engaged in semi-skilled, unskilled, or of skilled maintenance assignments. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Knowledge of landscaping, horticultural practices, and/or techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds. Supervising employees and/or offender workers Maintaining an effective working relationship with crew and other maintenance workers This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
