Pay range is $22-$25/hour. Under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent, the Groundskeeper II is a skilled maintenance professional responsible for performing a broad range of hands-on park maintenance, athletic field preparation, landscaping, and equipment operation. This position works independently on assigned tasks, serves as a resource to less experienced staff, and helps ensure parks and facilities are maintained to District standards. Key Responsibilities Perform advanced park maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, turf repair, landscaping, and grounds upkeep. Maintain athletic fields including dragging, lining, striping, and game/event setup Independently operate a wide range of grounds maintenance equipment Perform turf care activities such as aeration, overseeding, and fertilization support Monitor and maintain landscaped areas, including pruning and plant care Assist with irrigation monitoring and adjustments (as applicable) Provide guidance and on-the-job training to Groundskeeper I and seasonal staff Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of park infrastructure including benches, fencing, signage, landscaping features, and other site amenities. Identify, evaluate, and address safety hazards, maintenance deficiencies, and park appearance issues throughout District properties. Assist with seasonal operations including snow removal and storm response Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Valid Illinois Driver’s License (Pesticide License preferred or ability to obtain) 2–4+ years of park maintenance experience Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative Success Profile Strong technical skills and problem-solving ability Emerging leadership capabilities Reliable, adaptable, and accountable
