Groundskeeper Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theater located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining and enhancing all exterior campus spaces to ensure they are vibrant, welcoming, and reflect Marbles’ commitment to play. This role plays a key part in creating an outdoor environment that supports the museum’s mission and provides a positive first impression for all guests. Essential Job Responsibilities Execute ongoing grounds maintenance, including planting and transplanting, weeding, sweeping, and general upkeep of all outdoor spaces. Under the direction of the Grounds and Facilities keeper, plant and maintain all of Marbles’ landscaped areas, including but not limited to outdoor exhibits featuring herbs, produce, and vibrant perennials and annuals. Ensure that growing spaces, natural areas, and mulch beds are presentable and free of litter or debris. Facilitate proper hydration of lawns, trees, and plants using sprinkler systems, hoses, and watering cans. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees by spraying or spreading. Maintain an organized supply of all garden tools and materials. Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities Support volunteers in regular outdoor maintenance and landscape renovation projects. Ideal Experience & Skills 1 year of experience in landscape maintenance preferred. Basic garden knowledge and experience, with both produce and ornamentals. Proven interpersonal and verbal skills to positively engage with guests, particularly with children in the museum. Interest and ability to excite, inspire and engage children while working in a busy guest service environment. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, collaborate with a team, and provide and receive constructive feedback. Physical Demands Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting. Carrying up to 50 lbs. Occasionally using a ladder and going up and down stairs. Must be able to work at heights. Schedule Peak Season (April-October): 10-15 hours weekly Off Season (November-March): On-call basis Morning availability is preferred. Schedule flexibility is required including weekends, evenings and holidays. Work Environment Work primarily outdoors with exposure to high and low temperatures.
