Job Details Job Location: Maryville College - Maryville, TN Position Type: Full Time Education Level: High School Salary Range: Undisclosed Description Position Title: Groundskeeper Department: Facilities Operations Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: Grounds Superintendent *Expected Daily Work Hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday – Friday * College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. However, due to the nature of responsibility to the student body, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per day. Overtime (any hours in excess of 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved, in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document. Summary of this position: Maintains grounds of campus. [KP1] This position is an essential employee for inclement weather events and will be required to report for duty in adverse weather conditions when the College is closed. The position also is required to report on time in situations when the College is on a delayed start and is required to continue working when the College is released early. Subject to work after hours weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable) Education required to ensure success in this position: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience required to ensure success in this position: 1+ years’ experience in lawn care, preferred. Special skills, knowledge and abilities: Proficiency in operating hand tools as well as industrial size equipment for lawn care. Communicate clearly with coworkers and understand clear sets of instruction. Ability to work well with others. Regular attendance is required. Physical requirements: Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds. This position frequently requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Physical endurance for working outdoors for long periods of time. Environmental conditions: Regularly works in outside weather conditions that may include freezing temperatures and extreme heat. Frequently exposed to vibration. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and in high, precarious places and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment: Both large and hand-held equipment such as leaf blowers, industrial vacuums, lawn mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, etc. College vehicles (cars, trucks, vans) College golf carts Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically ~7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities): To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides as instructed. Cleans grounds and removes litter. Shovels snow from walks and driveways. Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup. Plants, waters, and fertilizes grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks. Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts. Sharpens items such as lawnmower blades, edging tools, chainsaws, and shears. Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge shears, and other powered and non-powered tools. Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty and students.
