Description OBJECTIVE: The Groundskeeping Laborer is a hands-on, physically demanding role responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and visually appealing outdoor spaces year-round. This position supports landscaping and grounds maintenance during the spring, summer, and fall seasons, and performs snow and ice removal during the winter months to ensure safe property conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pruning, and leaf removal. Plant and maintain grass, shrubs, trees, flowers, and other landscape features. Apply mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines. Remove unwanted, damaged, or unhealthy plants, shrubs, trees, and downed limbs. Maintain and repair outdoor features including stormwater retention ponds, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, and outdoor lighting. Dig trenches, level ground, and assist with landscape installation projects. Operate hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, skid steers, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment. Load, unload, transport, and stage materials, tools, and equipment using wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and manual lifting/carrying. Remove trash, debris, and organic waste from lawns, flower beds, sidewalks, and common areas. Assist other maintenance crew members and construction specialists as needed. Operate snow removal equipment including snowblowers and shovels; perform snow and ice removal from walkways, parking areas, and entrances during winter months. Periodically operate heavy equipment as assigned. Accurately code, submit, and approve fuel-related expenses using company expense management software in accordance with company policy. Maintain accurate records related to equipment usage and fuel consumption as required. Provide courteous customer service to tenants and respond professionally to service requests. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from job sites. Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or related outdoor maintenance work. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Basic knowledge of groundskeeping and landscaping practices. Ability to safely operate hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and snow removal equipment. Willingness to follow safety procedures and company policies. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Basic communication skills and ability to interact professionally with tenants, coworkers, and supervisors. Preferred: Experience operating heavy or specialized equipment (e.g., skid steer, chainsaw, snowplow, or snowblower). OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe. Knowledge of proper application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Experience performing seasonal snow and ice removal. Familiarity with basic equipment maintenance and identifying maintenance issues. Experience working across multiple job sites or properties. Basic computer or mobile device proficiency (e.g., timekeeping, work orders, or expense management software). Customer service experience in a property management or facilities environment. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, turning, crouching, and crawling. Ability to climb, work on, and carry ladders. Comfortable working at various heights. Ability to navigate uneven and diverse terrain. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions and climates. This position involves exposure to dust, noise, and vibrations associated with landscaping and groundskeeping equipment. Work may take place across multiple property locations, including multi-story buildings. Special Requirements: Regular in-state travel required. Ability to work 45–50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours as business needs require (including snow events). May require travel between multiple job sites within the same day.
