Join MODEC’s Kuala Lumpur engineering hub to lead high-impact offshore FPSO projects from FEED through execution. As Senior Group Lead, Mechanical Engineering, you’ll set the technical vision, mentor a talented team, and solve complex engineering challenges delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions at pace. You’ll shape standards, introduce new technologies and methods, and collaborate across disciplines and vendors to drive schedule excellence without compromising quality. Role Purpose Ensure world-class quality across group deliverables by providing hands-on technical leadership to engineers and designers. Independently manage and resolve complex engineering matters while meeting project specifications, quality requirements, and schedule. Champion continuous improvement—introducing technologies, materials, and practices tailored to FPSO processes —and identify cost-effective, production-ready solutions. Key Accountabilities Technical Guidance Provides technical assistance to project specifications for materials designs drawings equipment layouts and calculations. Conversant with specifications and requirements for mechanical static equipment and package systems of the assigned projects and requirements of Industry Codes and Standards, Classification Society rules and all relevant Regulatory. Responsible for the design and selection of specialty static and packaged equipment on EPC projects through the various engineering work phases (i.e. FEED studies and detailed engineering for Offshore, FPSO Projects) Responsible for Detailed engineering and design of specialty and high-pressure Static Equipment in compliance with international codes ASME Sec VIII Div-1, Div-2, EN-13445 European codes, EPC projects in compliance with International API codes & Client Specification requirements Static Equipment and Packages Be fully conversant with specifications for mechanical static equipment and package systems, Industry Codes and Standards, Classification Society rules, and all relevant regulatory requirements. Design and Selection (EPC, Offshore/FPSO) Lead the design and selection of specialty static and packaged equipment through FEED and detailed engineering phases for FPSO projects. Code Compliance and Detailed Engineering Ensure detailed engineering of specialty and high-pressure static equipment complies with ASME Sec VIII Div-1 and Div-2, EN 13445, applicable API standards, and client specifications. Quality Assurance of Deliverables Validate and approve specifications, data sheets, drawings, and documents to ensure completeness, correctness, and alignment with project needs. Resource Coordination Support internal resource planning; assess vendor and engineering subcontractor performance; develop strategic vendors for long-term partnerships. Mentoring and Talent Development Contribute to performance reviews, promotions, capability building, recognition, and team motivation to cultivate a high-performing engineering organization. Technical Delivery Management Lead or participate in technical meetings, progress reviews, and 3D model reviews; resolve layout, interface, implementation, and execution issues; escalate proactively to protect schedule and quality. Regulatory and Standards Compliance Ensure adherence to Industry Standards, Classification Society rules, local statutory/regulatory requirements in Malaysia, and MODEC policies. Continuous Improvement Optimize processes and adopt new technologies/methods to increase productivity, reduce cost, and shorten delivery cycles in mechanical engineering. Audits and Reviews Facilitate technical audits and reviews; drive timely follow-up, corrective/preventive actions, and knowledge capture. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) Minimum 20 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in the Oil & Gas sector; offshore/FPSO experience strongly preferred.
