Job Details Job Location: Henrico, VA 23231 Job Title: Group Leader Material Handler I. Job Summary Provides daily direction, training, and coaching to Material Handlers within the assigned area. Ensures a continuous and accurate supply of componentry and materials to packaging lines to support efficient packaging operations. Assists in maintaining a clean, organized work environment in accordance with PPGs and 5S principles. Performs all duties in compliance with applicable PPGs, safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and cGMP standards to ensure product quality, integrity, and employee safety. May be required to handle, transfer, and label hazardous waste in accordance with EPA regulations. II. Job Accountabilities Operations, Compliance, Safety, and Teamwork Provides daily direction to Material Handlers within the assigned area Trains and coaches Material Handlers to ensure proper performance and compliance Completes operator check-off lists at the start of each shift Ensures forklift certifications are valid and equipment is used safely Reports equipment malfunctions using established procedures Removes componentry from completed orders unless approved for use on the next order Counts and verifies componentry quantities prior to line use and upon return Identifies correct packaging components and lot numbers and stages materials at packaging lines Keeps product and cap hoppers filled where applicable Completes accurate, legible documentation including batch records, logbooks, and cleanup sheets Maintains proper product separation and pallet identification using correct pallet tickets Packs finished goods on pallets following established pallet patterns when required Maintains First-In/First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices Monitors packaging line status to ensure adequate material supply while minimizing returns Reports all accidents, incidents, near misses, and potential hazards immediately Completes FN-11 documentation when applicable Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor Training Completes all required training related to PPGs, batch documentation, safety, and cGMPs Assists with training and serves as a resource for new or less experienced employees III. Work Flow Works with the Supervisor to assign duties based on the production schedule. Provides daily direction to Material Handlers and communicates regularly with the Supervisor. Performs tasks in accordance with established PPGs and Job Aids. Completed work is transferred to the warehouse and held until QA approval and release. IV. Decision Making Primary Decision-Making Types: Routine: Follows established guidelines and procedures Interpretive: Interprets procedures and determines appropriate actions Non-Routine Decisions: Strictly adheres to PPGs and cGMPs related to packaging and warehouse operations. Resolves routine issues independently and escalates concerns to the Supervisor as needed. V. Supervision Works under general supervision. Refers complex or non-standard problems to the Supervisor. Work performance is reviewed through observation, documentation review, and operational results. VI. Interpersonal Contacts Internal Contacts: Supervisor – daily communication regarding operations and issue escalation Human Resources – personnel-related matters as needed Training – completion of required training as needed EH&S – hazardous materials and safety information as needed Shipping/Receiving – coordination of componentry and finished goods movement Label Room – obtaining and returning labels and componentry for reconciliation Material Scheduler – coordination of production schedules and material staging Packaging Production Technicians – coordination of pallet removal and line startup support VII. Technical and Other Competencies Reading for Information: Ability to understand and follow written procedures and instructions Applied Mathematics: Ability to perform basic arithmetic and conversions Observation: Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies Locating Information: Ability to interpret and compare information from workplace documents and graphics Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively, support team goals, and foster a dependable team environment VIII. Training and Experience Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Certifications: Forklift certification required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a production environment Skills: Proficiency with forklifts, pallet jacks, automatic pallet stretch wrappers, calculators, and basic computer navigation X. Job Impact Timely and accurate delivery of materials and componentry is critical to maintaining production schedules and product quality. Errors in material handling, documentation, or safety compliance may result in production delays, product loss, regulatory impact, or personal injury. XI. Working Conditions May be required to handle hazardous waste in compliance with EPA regulations. Requires physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds individually or more with team lifting or mechanical assistance.
