Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a talented Principal Scientist (Group Leader) to join the Department of Antibody Engineering in Genentech Research and Development (gRED), where we discover and engineer life-changing antibody drugs through pioneering science and technology. The successful candidate will lead a group to collaboratively develop bi/multi-specific antibodies by building new technologies and workflows to advance future internal antibody drug discovery programs and identify lead clinical candidates.

Primary responsibilities will focus on three areas.

  • Engage with therapeutic areas to design and apply new antibody MOAs at the interface of biology and molecular engineering
  • Leverage structure-based engineering and internal AI/ML capabilities to design novel molecule formats
  • Serve as molecule or project team leader to direct therapeutic antibody lead selection, optimization, and engineering to develop best- or first-in-class antibody therapeutics

The individual should be passionate about developing creative and innovative protein-based technologies using skills in protein engineering, structural biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology. Exceptionally strong leadership and communications skills are essential for the position as the individual is expected to collaborate across Antibody Engineering to discover and advance next generation therapeutics.
