We believe education is the key that enables all people to create an economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families and the communities. We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working and creative leader who shares our passion for providing exceptional programming to children and families in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx. East Side House is looking for a highly-motivated, organized, and supportive person to work at East Side House Youth After-School Program , a literacy-focused after school program for students in grades 1st -5th from high-poverty communities in Bronx, NY. The Group Leader’s primary responsibility is to design and lead enrichment activities for students. We are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas: academic tutoring and homework help, social emotional supports, science, music, visual arts, media technology, dance, sports and recreation, health awareness and community leadership. Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to the following: Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, and community service and arts activities with middle school-aged children. Adhere to policies and procedures in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus. Write Lesson Plans 2 weeks prior to lesson, which will be implemented to your group of students. Prep for lessons a day before. Possible lesson topics are STEM, leadership, physical activity, literacy, drama and community service. Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care, and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group. Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role. Effectively manage assigned group. Maintain and enforce progressive discipline policy. Maintain a rating of “Meets Standard” in regards to ESH and Community School standards. Assist in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents to Director. Inspect on a daily basis all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day. Work as a part of a collaborative team, providing support to any specialist implementing activities. Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including bi-weekly supervision, team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional at least 15 hours of training during the school year. Oversee compliance are met within ESH, DOE, and DOH regulations and policies. Oversee coordination of daily program schedule, calendar, and staff coverage. Consistently strategize, design, and implement outreach to maintain participant enrollment numbers. Enter, record, and maintain student attendance data in reporting system. Oversee, adhere, and document the agency’s emergency instructions and plan. Staff must wear uniform to empower unity and reconiziation of East Side House (shirts and sweaters will be provided). Must have experience working with young children in a structured youth program of elementry students, preferably in a racially, ethically, and socio-emotionally diverse urban community. Possess and ability to engage and lead children in small group activities in your area of specialty; strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, excellent judgment, ability to work in a team in a variety of environments. Candidates possessing skills in foreign languages, visual arts, music, or performing arts are strongly encouraged to apply. The After School Program operates on school days between 2:00 – 6:00 pm. The program operates Monday-Friday only. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs.
