Job Description
Terracon is seeking a Group Manager to lead and grow our Building Environmental Sciences and Industrial Hygeine (Asbestos & IH) practices in the Kansas City metropolitan area. This position offers a unique opportunity to join our talented team based in Lenexa, Kansas and lead an established group of environmental practitioners consulting on matters including hazardous building materials (e.g., asbestos, lead, PCBs) inspection and abatement, moisture and microbial assessment and abatement, and a variety of industrial hygiene services. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual who is strong in client and business development, team building and mentoring, business operations management, and strategic planning and implementation. This position will work closely with the Environmental Department Manager, Office leadership, and Environmental Service Line leadership to strategically expand and elevate the practice in the region.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm, including but not limited to Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or Geology, and 5 years of practice experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history

Responsibilities:

Supervise teams to ensure that work is executed on time and in a manner that provides a positive client experience. Supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of resources, and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Supervise daily department operations including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, project quality, timely delivery, and adherence to policies and procedures. Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
  • With support from the Department/Office manager:
  • performs business and client development activities;
  • develops and manages employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding;
  • prepares and executes annual business plan for the specialty service group; and
  • oversees and manages the success of the key group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Directs proposal efforts and project workflows for optimal utilization of team resources and business efficiency.
  • Develops understanding of project-related risk and implements company risk management policies throughout team’s work.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitors quality standards and practices.
  • Leads safety efforts for team and ensures team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment and demonstrating safety practices. Promotes pre-task planning for all projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm, including but not limited to Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or Geology, and 5 years of practice experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Professional certification or licensure in field of expertise.
