  • Proven track record in a senior sales leadership role within the heating, construction, energy, or housing sectors.
  • Strong experience in direct client engagement and solution-based selling.
  • Demonstrated success in leading high-value bids and tenders, including oversight of bid teams.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on ability to generate new business.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commercially driven, data-informed, and results-focused.
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across the UK.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

As Group Sales Director, you will be responsible for driving the commercial strategy and revenue growth across all divisions - gas services, new build, renewables, and commercial. This includes overseeing the full sales lifecycle, from strategic planning and bid management to direct client engagement and relationship building.
A key focus of the role is to personally engage with both existing and prospective clients to promote Phoenix’s full range of services, drive new sales, and identify opportunities for long-term growth. You will also lead our bid team and tendering process to secure new contracts and maximise market share.
You will work with our Marketing team to develop and deliver on our Group marketing strategy to help to maximise market exposure and ultimately secure new business.
This is a senior leadership role with high visibility and direct impact on the company’s growth trajectory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sales Strategy & Leadership
  • Design and implement a comprehensive sales strategy that supports the company’s growth targets.
  • Lead business development efforts across multiple service lines, sectors, and regions.
  • Client Engagement & Direct Sales
  • Act as a key commercial face of the business, engaging directly with new and existing clients.
  • Promote Phoenix’s services and capabilities to housing developers, local authorities, housing associations, and private sector partners.
  • Build trusted relationships that lead to long-term partnerships and repeat business.
  • Identify and convert new opportunities across target markets.
  • Bid Management & Tender Strategy
  • Oversee and drive the bid team, ensuring high-quality, commercially compelling submissions.
  • Provide leadership and oversight on key tenders, bid writing, pricing, and win strategies.
  • Collaborate with operational and technical teams to gather input and meet critical deadlines.
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing sales and bid function.
  • Foster a culture of performance, accountability, and client-first thinking.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with marketing, operations, and finance teams to ensure aligned go-to-market activity.
  • Support brand positioning, messaging, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Performance Reporting
  • Monitor and report on sales KPIs, bid success rates, and pipeline performance to the Board and stakeholders.
  • Use data to drive continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
