KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Development

  • Support the BD business evaluation and acquisitions.
  • Ensure validation for the operations section of the BD model, explain the workings, phasing plan and give options.
  • Direct BD consultants to harvest the data needed for best possible terminal design.
  • Read up on all documentation and reports in the data room
  • Provide input in the model and create the conceptual terminal design, design vessel, traffic plan, capacity modelling, equipment selection and specification such as quay crane size and outreach, tandem/twin, yard equipment, manning ratios for new terminal development and expansion projects.
  • Advise on the mode change in phases and the business interruption if applicable.
  • Develop and improve the capacity, equipment and manning model.
  • Collaborate with projects management department to cost up the terminal design and expansion.

Greenfield design

  • Perform operational reviews of capital acquisitions for new projects and existing Business Units including layout with traffic plans and in-depth modeling of terminal capacity, equipment and labor requirement. Lead the efforts of terminal simulation with supplier.
  • Provide operational input to the new conceptual design of new port facilities and port expansion projects including the use of simulation models and various business models as developed in house.
  • Participate and lead the reporting of due diligence visits to provide operational input on site, conduct Due Diligence evaluations preliminary to the acquisition of new businesses and report back.

New Technology

  • Closely follow the technology developments in the stevedoring market for process and equipment automation, keep yourself up to date.
  • Promote early adoption of new and proven applications including but not limited to Labor Management Systems, Berth and Yard crane Optimization tools, tandem, remote controlled cranes, VBS, new technologies i.e. OCR gates, RFID, PDS, auto handoff and telemetry solutions.
  • Communicate the above to the equipment procurement team.

Share best practice

  • Ensure best practices are anchored in the green field facilities via the operations standard “employers requirement” for the projects management team. Continue to develop those standards.

Other

  • Provide specialist advice/consultancy to other elements of the organization (cross-functionally);
  • Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviors in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience in managing the terminal business

  • Minimum 4 years as operations manager or COO in the container industry business.
  • Over 8 years management experience in global container terminal industry, you preferably have worked in two operating modes such as RTG and ASC or SC terminals.
  • Experience in terminal automation processes.
  • You have a keen interest in business practices, modelling, terminal technology and design.
  • Enjoys optimising processes

Project Management

  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills. Ability to easily collaborate and pull your weight.
  • Previous project management experience within the container / non-container terminal industry.

Subject Matter knowledge

  • Must know all terminal processes inside out, from Lasher to executive
  • Detailed knowledge of all terminal concepts, Straddle carrier/RS/RTG/RMG/AGV and ASC shuttle concepts.
  • Considerable Nautical knowledge of vessels, tugs, barges, pilotage, port authority, weather, & currents.
  • Advantage to have experience working with port consultants.
  • The desire to learn and take on-board business-related matters regarding business practices and assessments.
  • Knowledge of terminal Safety, Environmental and Security related matters and how they relate to terminal operations and company commitments.
  • An ability to maintain current knowledge of developments related to business matters of interest to internal assessment particularly legislation changes and developments as they affect DP World operations.
  • You can work under pressure and you are flexible.
  • We assume you are data hungry, you are great with Exel and BI systems analyses but also the entire Microsoft suite and TEAMS.
  • You have superb presentation skills.

Responsibilities

The job playfield is the expansion of DP World port and Logistics portfolio. You assist Global VP port expansion in his task with the Business Development - and the Project management team to design and model the most cost effective, sustainable terminal design fit for purpose and the business plan. The next step is the plan will be tabled to the executive committee.
Endeavour the best possible conceptual terminal design to match the business requirement. Design and model the terminal to fit the location & requirement, cargo mix, design vessel size, crane dimensions, service level requirement, capacity calculations, equipment design requirement, CO2 reduction and manning of new terminals (Greenfield and Brownfield).
Steer BD team and their consultants to harvest the data needed for terminal design requirement. With GPPMD work out the costing detail and tweak to make it commercially attractive for the specific location.
Ensure the DP World operating experience over time is anchored in the terminal designs, push for improved employers requirement, design standards and continuous learning.
Conduct Due Diligence visits from the Operations perspective and report to the VP Port expansions.
Actively promote the latest stevedoring technology as well as process and equipment automation initiatives, you will be asked to support R&D initiatives as well in your role.
Assist terminals and regions to develop port master planning and 5 year plan.
Assist by organizing terminals in simulations with drafting employers scoping document and data analyses.
Seek synergy between verticals in DP World group of companies, ports and terminals, logistics and shipping.
