Description:

Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated community-focused individual to work as a Gun Violence Mediator for our Serving Our Streets Program within the Public Safety Division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience or training in crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of St. Louis Metropolitan Area
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Missouri driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record

Responsibilities:

  • Gaining information on potential conflicts St. Louis Metropolitan Area
  • Formulating action plans to help resolve conflicts
  • Attending weekly mediation meetings
  • Meeting with high-risk individuals to discuss issues
  • Working to prevent initial acts of violence
  • Helping in the efforts to prevent all potential retaliatory shootings
  • Developing relationships with influential individuals and groups in the community
  • Referring potential clients/participants to outreach workers
  • Documenting conflicts resolved on conflict mediation forms
  • Maintain log documenting all contacts with high-risk individuals daily
  • Participating in all required training
  • Attending community responses as needed
