SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER POSITION SUMMARY The Authority is currently recruiting a Sustainability Manager to join our team. Under the direction of the VP of Campus Operations, the Sustainability Manager will execute a comprehensive environmental strategy for the GWCCA. Important issues to address include energy use, water conservation, waste diversion, community engagement, LEED certification, outreach, volunteerism, and staff education. This position requires extensive interfacing with all internal and external stakeholders to be successful. SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and implement sustainability initiatives for the Georgia World Congress Center Authority that fit within the business model and strategic goals of the Authority. Plan and organize environmental sustainability program implementation as well as technical research/analysis, scheduling, budgeting, and performance metrics to ensure consistency with the Authority’s expectations. Lead waste diversion efforts with clients, staff, vendors, and contractors to ensure maximum diversion is met; manage collection and analysis of diversion data, develop and implement plans to improve program. Explain sustainability policies, procedures, and opportunities to clients and prospective clients and respond to requests for information regarding program activities or requirements. Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders to support sustainability initiatives. Collaborate with community organizations to co-develop programs that address local sustainability needs (e.g., food security, green spaces, resilience). Provide technical research, assistance, and expertise of new sustainability opportunities and technologies Ensure work is performed in compliance with codes, ordinances, regulations, including but not limited to, LEED certification, APEX/ASTM Green Meetings Standards, EPA regulations. and OSHA. Evaluate and manage facility and organizational operations for LEED and APEX/ASTM Green Meetings certification. Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for both the department and the Authority. Develop and deliver sustainability training and policies; establish and encourage engagement in sustainability initiatives (e.g., green teams, zero-waste challenges). Create educational resources (guides, toolkits, presentations) to support a culture of environmental responsibility. Support public relations, marketing, and sales campaign to strategically brand and communicate sustainability efforts and successes. Plan, coordinate, and conduct outreach initiatives and promotional activities for sustainability programs. Represent the organization at events and public forums to promote environmental goals and services. Coordinate volunteer groups for sustainability-focused events (e.g., cleanups, plantings, conservation efforts). Recognize engagement through appreciation events and communications that highlight their impact. Develop, write, review, and present a variety of technical reports, documents, correspondence, and records related to departmental programs; draft correspondence to other Authority departments and state and federal regulatory agencies; oversee maintenance of accurate and complete environmental records. Perform additional duties and responsibilities which may be necessary or desirable to support The Authority’s success. SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and sustainability issues. Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in sustainability and recycling programs. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and different departments including unionized labor and external vendors. Skill in guiding and motivating staff that exclusively report to other managers. Ability to analyze information and use logic to resolve issues and problems. Skill and ability in operating a personal computer, working knowledge of current software programs. Knowledge of successful project management techniques to include: budgeting, scheduling, and auditing. Ability to manage programs and resources in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to prioritize and multi-task; must be very organized and flexible to change course of work/projects as circumstances dictate. Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
