Position: Hair and Makeup Run Crew – Working Girl The Musical
Department: Costumes
Classification: Seasonal, IATSE Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Schedule: Weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and/or holidays
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Hair and Makeup Supervisor; Costume Supervisor
Works With: LJP Staff, Visiting Artists & Designers, IATSE Labor, UCSD Residents
Dates: October 9, 2025 through December 21, 2025

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years experience with wigs, hair and makeup in a regional theatre or touring environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wigs, hair, and make up related disciplines including hair prep for all hair types, wig application, and basic hair styling techniques.
  • Experience working with all types of hair.
  • Work well with designers, actors and others, in the face of pressure and time constraints, in a calm, approachable manner on unexpected challenges.
  • Effectively communicate with production team.
  • Able to handle a high volume of work and attend to numerous projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of and dedication to safe working practices.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain the use of all wig, hair, and makeup elements in a safe and efficient manner, including incoming productions and coproductions, with consideration towards maintaining the artistic integrity and vision of the designers and directors for all assigned productions.
  • Assist in wig fittings, hair consultations, and makeup tests as needed.
  • Supervise and assist actors with quickchanges during tech rehearsals and performances.
  • Supply out of town Wig Designers with wig wraps and measurements as requested.
  • Work with the Hair and Makeup Supervisor to learn the roller sets, styling and application of wigs/facial hair for all assigned productions. Must create and maintain written and photographic documentation of same.
  • Assist with ventilation and wig alterations as necessary.
  • Maintain the design and style of the wigs and hair daily, ensuring that all wigs and facial hair are prepped for half hour call and applied to actors in the proper way.
  • Perform all work in adherence to AEA and IATSE guidelines.
  • Develop wig crew tracks and perform in said tracks.
  • Support specialty make up design by communicating requests for makeup products and appropriate skin care for the actor.
  • Attend and participate in all technical rehearsals and previews for all productions.
  • Read and respond to company email in a timely manner.
  • Keep Hair and Makeup Supervisor informed at all times of issues relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with hair and makeup strike for assigned productions. Return rentals as requested by the Wig Designer and restock all items in their proper place.
  • Foster and maintain a positive and productive work environment in the costume shop, backstage, dressing rooms, and in wardrobe areas.
  • Ensure that the hair and makeup work spaces, backstage areas, and dressing rooms are kept in a clean and tidy manner, that these areas are properly supplied, and that equipment is kept in a safe and sanitary working condition.
  • Demonstrate leadership, work as part of a team, and provide cover and assistance as required.
  • Inform, assist in the creation of, and maintain paperwork essential to the operation of the production including wardrobe crew tracks, run notes, and swing assignments.
  • Provide supply lists with 48 hours advance notice. Maintain stock supplies to get through 5show weekend runs.
  • Attend and supervise quickchange rehearsals for any understudies that will perform.
  • Come to work promptly and regularly.
  • Complete timesheet daily.
  • Function in a professional and collegial manner when collaborating with all theatre personnel, professional creative teams, staff, management and other visiting artists.
  • Other duties as assigned.
