OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding Independent Training Provider specialising in the hair, nail and beauty sector. TNB has grown significantly over the past year and is now looking to move the company to the next level of growth and requires an individual and team player to help develop and grow our Teaching Programme and be influential in the implementation, delivery and success of our hairdressing training delivery. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of our company growth and will have experience in delivering quality training programmes to learners.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE SOUGHT

The ideal candidate will have (but we will provide teaching and assessing qualification training if necessary to the right candidate):

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent).
  • Minimum Level 3 Qualification in hairdressing subject/occupational area.
  • Barbering qualification is desirable in addition to hairdressing.
  • Worked or still working within the relevant industry sector as well as having worked within a teaching or assessing role.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of curriculum development with a flexible approach to programme changes as they occur.
  • Experience of delivering engaging sessions to learners of varying abilities.
  • Experience of hairdressing programmes and knowledge/experience of the Ofsted Inspection Process.
  • Ability to empathise with learners and challenge negative behaviours.
  • Knowledge and understanding of barriers and obstacles to learning and/or moving into employment that individuals face.
  • ICT skills including use of a CRM system, spreadsheet and word processing programs and e-mail at a highly proficient level.
  • Effective communicator with excellent verbal, written and listening skills.
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritise and organise workload and to work on own initiative with the confidence to work under minimal supervision.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and equality and diversity and their application in the teaching and learning environment.
  • Self motivated with evidence of continuing professional development and a willingness to undertake further training relevant to the role.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and honest with an understanding of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

The role sits under the Training and Quality Manager and is primarily responsible for the following:

  • Teaching, assessing and supporting TNB Learners in the training centre and work based locations to National Occupational Standards ensuring timely achievement of qualifications.
  • Keeping accurate records and adhering to policies and procedures (Learner Journey) as required to ensure that the highest quality of training provision is achieved at all times.
  • Develop and build positive relationships with learners to them throughout their learning programme and beyond to their progression opportunities.
  • Enrol and induct students to programmes, monitor and support progress whilst on programme and develop and deliver quality teaching sessions.

You will be a highly ambitious individual, who is keen to learn and progress and the ideal candidate will be a naturally positive person, with meticulous attention to detail and an enthusiasm for delivering excellent teaching and learning throughout TNB. You will know and understand the value of encouragement and positive influence on learners and have a positive, can-do attitude with a passion for making a difference.

As the holder of this role you will be required to undertake the following tasks:

  • Identify and deal with any barriers to fair assessment and make use of different assessment methods to ensure all learners’ needs are met and all have access to fair assessment against the standards set down by TNB and the awarding body to ensure the successful outcome for the programme of study in line with contractual requirements and targets
  • Ensure knowledge of occupational standards and criteria as set out by the relevant trade/ sector council and/or awarding body is current
  • Teach learners in accordance with TNB’s schedule of work and design and implement detailed and accurate lesson/assessment plans
  • Ensure lessons/assessments use a variety of methods to cover all learning styles, fully engaging all learners to ensure a Good/Outstanding level of teaching
  • Prepare all course resources and assessment materials in accordance with equality and diversity policies, procedures and legislation
  • Prepare delivery materials and mark learner work in a timely manner
  • Embed functional skills into teaching resources and assessment types/methods and check learner progress during every lesson
  • For apprenticeship learners, carry out progress reviews every 5 weeks in conjunction with the employer to provide support, prepare actions/assessment plans, undertake assessments and provide feedback on performance using the TNB review form
  • Check the authenticity and originality of any witness testimonies and learner written work
  • Give constructive, development feedback to learners to include SMART targets and make assessment judgements based on the Awarding Body or Apprenticeship Standard competency requirements
  • Prepare, agree and review assessment plans with learners and create learner portfolios (paper based or online) to agreed quality and audit standards and ensure all work is submitted on time
  • Maintain your own occupational competence and professional development, working towards and achieving relevant assessment and teaching qualifications within agreed timescales and maintaining records of CPD (minimum 30 hours per annum)
  • Assist with the review, evaluation and development of the provision to ensure the programme is up to date
  • Assist in Monitoring Health & Safety within the working salon, the training centre and learners’ workplaces
  • Ensure the salon and academy are kept clean and tidy during the day and left clean and tidy at night in accordance with TNB procedures and standards
  • Provide monthly information to your manager regarding your learners progress including performance, attendance, functional skills progress and any issues
  • Complete registers and attendance records accurately and in a timely manner
  • Achieve a student retention rate of at least 88%, learner attendance rate of 90% and a timely completion rate of 90%
  • Promote TNB in accordance with our marketing strategy including encouragement of progression routes to maintain learner numbers
  • Ensure up to date knowledge of funding streams and eligibility criteria
  • 50 hours CPD annually at a minimum
  • Complete progress reviews with your students every 8 weeks at a minimum

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ROLE

As the role holder you will be required to:

  • Attend EQA visits at least once every 12 months and implement internal and external quality action points within agreed timescales
  • Liaise with others in the assessment process and take part in standardisation meetings and activities to facilitate the standardisation of practice with other assessors and participate in group strategy conversations to help contribute to the long-term success of the business
  • Have a flexible approach to working and be willing to ‘muck-in’ with your colleagues to help the business operate at its peak level all day every day
  • Represent TNB at appropriate external meetings and user groups
