QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate with Certification in Multi-Categorical K-5 with an Endorsement in Autism or eligibility for permit and agrees to fulfill certification requirements.

  • Possess a valid WV Teaching Certificate in any content area K-AD.
  • Completion of a successful background check.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide differentiated instruction and intervention to students exhibiting a wide range of abilities and behaviors.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Exhibits the physical attributes to passively restrain both male and female students who display aggressive and violent behavior over an extended period of time
  • Knowledge/experience of how to interpret and apply test data, including Alternate Performance Task Assessment
  • Knowledge/experience in providing computer assisted instruction to exceptional students
  • Knowledge/experience in providing established procedures for medically fragile students
  • Knowledge/experience developing and implementing IEP’s and MEP’s
  • Knowledge/experience in the appropriate identification and placement for exceptional students
  • Training and experience in a variety of strategies including PECS, TEACCH, Discrete Trial Teaching, Social Stories, Applied Behavior Analysis, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Co-teaching, Crisis Prevention Intervention.
  • Any additional combination of training or experience which would lead to successful employment as a Special Education Teacher.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  • Collaborate with or without mental health provides, classroom teachers, parents, and other specialist to address the social/emotional learning of all students
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
  • Promote and adhere to the district mission, core beliefs, academic goals, and target areas.
  • Demonstrate a deep and extensive knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Design standards-driven instruction using state-approved curricula.
  • Use a balanced assessment approach to guide student learning.
  • Understand and respond to the unique characteristics of learners.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment.
  • Establish and maintain a learner-centered culture.
  • Utilize a variety of research-based instructional strategies.
  • Motivate and engage students in learning, problem solving and collaboration.
  • Adjust instruction based on a variety of assessments and student responses.
  • Facilitate a de-escalation space for students in crisis.
  • Provide check-ins and monitor students participating in classes throughout the day.
  • Guide and monitor individualized supports and schedules for all students participating in the social/emotional learning classroom.
  • Engage in professional development for self-renewal that guides continuous examination and improvement of professional practice.
  • Engage in collaborative learning opportunities for self-renewal with colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide collaborative efforts to support the success of all students.
  • Work with parents, guardians, families, and community entities to support student learning and well-being.
  • Promote practices and policies that improve school environment and student learning.
  • Provide measurable progress of student learning of state-approved curricula.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct as defined in law, policy and procedure at the state, district, and school level.
  • Provides a program which may include behavior management, emotional/social skills, academic instruction, career education, leisure skills and daily living/survival skills (which may include toileting and related lifting)
  • Assures that instruction is programmed in sequence and systematically presented
  • Utilizes a varied multidisciplinary approach when providing direct instruction and/or integrating with other instructional areas of study
  • Provides direct instruction which encourages students to generalize and maintain skills and attitudes in appropriate life situations
  • Selects learning outcomes with consideration given to the following:
  • present skills of the students
  • age appropriateness
  • social acceptability of the skill
  • the functionality of the skill
  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBA) to determine what motivates and maintains a challenging/interfering behavior of an individual with disabilities
  • Develops, monitors, and modifies a behavior plan for students with disabilities
  • Establishes a classroom atmosphere that is caring and safe
  • Encourages individual social and academic growth
  • Establishes a classroom structure which provides a learning environment which is well-planned, highly structured, consistent in expectations and consequences, and success oriented
  • Facilitates parental involvement in the management plans for individual students
  • Develops and implements an individualized educational plan (IEP) for each student that is learning and goal oriented with defined expectancies
  • Administers, scores and interprets the appropriate assessment instruments, including observations, as part of the multidisciplinary evaluation team (MDET)
  • Consults with parents on a regular basis regarding any progress and program review/revision to ensure least restrictive environment
  • Collaborates with consultants and therapists to implement the goals and objectives for related services
  • Maintains complete and accurate records while documenting information appropriately
  • Works with staff, organizations, agencies and the community to promote and develop an understanding of the program
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
