Description:

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are looking for a Hardware Program Manager to join the team.
As Microsoft’s cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 2+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in high-volume server design and manufacturing
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • 1+ year(s) experience with hardware, firmware & software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of technical program management or project management experience or a technical role with systems engineering experience, preferably in Cloud silicon, server design, accelerators, Networking solutions, FW & SW development and deployment, and systems solutions from cradle to grave.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing a team of engineering and/or technical operations professionals responsible for critical systems and operations in a matrix organization.
  • Experience with hardware, firmware & software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system.
  • Knowledge of high-volume server design and manufacturing is desired.
  • Knowledge about datacenters & fleet operation at scale.
    Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year. Responsibilities:

  • Drive virtual teams of functional leads including members from hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking and datacenter operations from documenting a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) for the new product development to leading the project team to meet stated milestones.
  • Technical Program Management for new Cloud hardware development. Drive the development, planning & execution of a holistic cross functional product development and/or launch strategy. Provides technical leadership and identify technical risks.
  • Collaborate with internal and external technology development partners to form a cohesive development plan.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for establishing an accurate and effective project infrastructure. Leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps and achieve objectives through a cross functional team.
  • Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while ensuring timely decisions are being made.
  • Hold accountability for team and most or all portions of the work to deliver best in class architecture solutions.
  • The ability to engage subject matter experts across disciplines to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Conducts risk management efforts in new product introduction, scenario planning and mitigation of risks, recovery from risks.
  • Communicate to and regularly interact with senior leadership, highlighting risks across functional teams and providing recommendations to support product level decisions.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguity. Apply process where it creates value, and design process where it’s needed. Recognize the situations where each approach is most appropriate.
  • Ensure cross functional alignment: generating clarity, tracking towards development milestones and overall readiness for all new Data Center infrastructure development, launch, and deployments.
  • Use program management tools and communication methods to ensure common understanding of program plan of record to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and measure engineering impact, performance results and process efficiency. Apply AI tools to stream line processes.
