Shift/Hours/Location: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm, Onsite or Remote, Moses Lake, WA WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON Create Safety Data Sheets (SDS) utilizing SDS authoring software. Review and approve Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Troubleshoot, problem solve and support system improvements within Safety Data Sheets (SDS) software for SDS as well as for label issues. Understand and apply domestic and international regulatory requirements (GHS, Transportation, OSHA Haz-com) to daily work. Act as administrator for the entire WERCS program to ensure that SDS, labels and label templates are kept up to date with spec changes and regulatory compliance. Create templates for labels as well as reviewing and approving labels to ensure error-free hazard communication compliance. Provide expert Laboratory chemical hygiene support/training. Including but not limited to data retrieval, processing, and analytical review of chemicals to Ensure global SDS and label compliance. Review and authorize new chemical requests. Work with Product Managers on new product development to supply regulatory information for various raw materials. Support the High-Performance Materials (HPM) group with the registration and documentation of novel substances. Assess and implement compliance with the importation of new chemicals into foreign jurisdictions. Manage REACH and country specific chemical registrations. Facilitating the use of Industrial Hygiene practices throughout the plant and within the SDS and labeling. Stay up to date with international importation procedures and registrations. Conduct relevant Level I EHSS Trainings. Mentor the Hazard Communications team through training, support, and guidance. Respond to various customer surveys, requests, and requirements efficiently. Provide daily accurate, concise, and punctual information to parties inside and outside the organization. Act as a backup site expert for the HC-CHP to problem solve lab and chemical hygiene issues. Ability to coordinate with EHSS Staff and Lab Staff including Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Officers (LCHO’s) to assure that chemical hazards and protective measures are considered. Backup for MLI’s Corporate Chemical Hygiene Officer (CCHO). Gather and organize relevant information utilizing multiple internal resources and provide timely feedback to Haz-com team. Resolve routine questions and problems while bringing more complex issues to the attention of the HC-CHP. Oversee and apply discretion while solving problems and escalating issues to EHSS management when appropriate. Work with consultants and CDX to maintain registrations for chemicals. Oversee the planning and implementation of special projects. Uphold all MLI policies and “MLI Code of Conduct.” Strict compliance with Environmental and Safety regulations. Compliance and individual accountability with the MLI Quality System and ISO Registration is required. QUALIFICATIONS Associate of Science Degree in Chemistry, Industrial hygiene, or related field. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting. Certified on and able to interpret written code for IMDG, IATA, DOT, OSHA, and GHS regulations. Strong Chemistry knowledge. Strong knowledge of computers and MS Office software. Strong knowledge of arithmetic and grammar. Strong understanding of TSCA. Understand and implement OSHA standards. Experience in Laboratory and Industrial Hygiene and implement and advise on engineering controls and PPE where applicable. Work towards certification in Safety (HazCom focus). Demonstrated ability to: Attention to detail. Follow written and verbal instructions in English. Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines. Work as a leader, member of the team, and independently. Perform tasks with attention to detail and accuracy. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS HazCom, Laboratory Certification. Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry, Industrial hygiene, or related field is preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS Duties are generally performed indoors in an office and high purity manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: hardhat, safety glasses and full leather shoes, etc. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pacemakers, Pain Management devices, etc. Qualifications
