    Provide high-quality hazards and warnings advice to support evidence-based decision making Be part of a high-impact, fast-paced emergency management team Permanent, full-time, CBD location   He angitūtanga: The opportunity    Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) has an exciting opportunity for a Hazards & Warnings Advisor to join the Operations Unit. As the Hazards and Warnings Advisor, you’ll provide expertise in the fields of hazards advice and hazard warning and alerting systems.     You’ll have a critical role to play in advising on hazards and translating their impact, and developing a science-based approach to alerting and warning triggers to enable Emergency Management staff and communities to respond to impending events. Being highly collaborative you’ll work with scientists, engineers and other subject matter experts across Council, academia, and other agencies.   He kōrero mōu: About you   With solid experience in a hazards-related science or in emergency management, you’ll bring an understanding of hazards warning systems and ideally experience of using or drafting standard operating procedures or methodologies to interpret and respond to scientific information-based stimuli.   We’re looking for a passion for emergency management and translating science into practical approaches, alongside the capability to work in a complex high-pressure environment.   You’ll have proven ability in report writing, and in translating complex scientific or technical concepts into clear accessible language, alongside an in-depth understanding of natural hazards, including research and numerical modelling relating to; Tsunami, flooding, Volcano, Coastal inundation and Cyclones.   Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer   It’s not only a career-enhancing role, this is also a unique and significant opportunity where your work, decisions and leadership will contribute to ensure the ability for Tāmaki Makaurau and all those who call it home to plan for, respond to, and recover from emergency events.   This role is required to participate in AEMs on-call Duty Team and will be required to perform additional emergency response and recovery functions as necessary, often outside of ‘BAU’ hours.   Please use this link to view a copy of the position description.   Applications close Sunday, 17th May 2026   This role is deemed safety sensitive and, in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.   You will also be required to have a valid NZ driver's licence   Auckland Council is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and we are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion.
