JOB OVERVIEW

South Wigston Health Centre is looking for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our workforce. Our nursing team consists of 1 Advanced Care Practitioner, 2 x Practice nurses and 1 x Healthcare Assistant.
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) plays a vital role in supporting the practice nursing team and broader multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Working within their scope of practice, the HCA will assist with routine clinical procedures, facilitate patient health monitoring, and support the delivery of nursing services to our patient population. The HCA will be actively involved in treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education, directly engaging with patients to address their health needs. The HCA will contribute significantly to the efficiency, quality, and effectiveness of our practice’s services.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high standards of holistic care, ensuring patient equality and dignity are maintained.
  • Conduct clinical observations, including temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure (including 24-hour BP), and measure patient height and weight.
  • Perform NHS health checks.
  • Observe and promptly report any changes in patient conditions to the Practice Nurse or GP on call.
  • Provide chaperone support during examinations and treatments.
  • Assist with Chronic Disease Management following practice protocols and within training and competency levels.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
  • To perform any Community Based Services (CBS) such as ear irrigation, under the supervision of the ANP, Practice Nurse or Nurse Associate if appropriately trained.
  • Provide Wound care following care plans provided by practice nurses.

  • Obtain venous blood samples from patients as directed.
  • Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens; perform urinalysis; and ensure proper labelling, bagging, and online form completion.
  • Perform INR tests within Anticoagulation clinics.
  • Conduct additional tests such as ECGs, H Pylori testing, and Spirometry if fully trained.
  • Administer Influenza, Pneumonia, Vitamin B12, Shingles and RSV vaccines following practice protocols if appropriately trained.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
