Description
Reporting to the Manager, Radiation Therapy, the Health Care Aide functions as a member of the Radiation Therapy Program Health Care Team, supporting the Radiation Treatment Floor, HDR Brachytherapy, Review and Clinic G and RESSCU. The Technical HCA role supports patient care through endoscopy and surgical equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment and participation in select patient care activities. This role includes both technical and clinical aspects of the HCA position by providing unit support to patients, families and those providing service and/or care in Radiation Therapy. Functions according to the job description for Health Care Aide. 1. Grade 12 education; must be able to read and write English proficiently 2. Mandatory completion of Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide Certificate. 3. Mandatory completed MDRAO Techniques course and re-certification as per standards 4. Completed Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR within the last 12 months 5. Minimum 2 years technical experience in a similar role (the handling, reprocessing and care of delicate equipment) within a health care environment 6. Demonstrated care, use, handling, maintenance, including disinfection and storage of associated endoscopy and surgical equipment. 7. Experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies. 8. Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required 9. Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and WHMIS 10. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills 11. Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the position 12. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions, set priorities and organize work accordingly 13. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body techniques
