Description The Head Athletic Performance Coach shall provide Christ-centered leadership in regards to student involvement and development. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. Develop training plans based on scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, keeps accurate records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes during the school year as well as summer workouts. Meets regularly with sport coaches to determine improvements that need to be made by the individual athletes. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Head Athletic Performance Coach will consult with the sports medicine or athletic training staff. Responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. Design and implements strength training and conditioning programs for all athletic programs at Savannah Christian by using research driven practices. Work alongside the athletic training staff to rehabilitate and strengthen injured athletes. Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches and sports medicine staff. Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines. Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress. End of season analysis for each sports program. Organize and operate the summer weight training program. Conduct annual review of departmental risk management plans. Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs. Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations for curricular and extra-curricular activities, as stated in the school’s Student Code of Conduct. Work hand and hand with program directors in terms of professional development. Continue to expand the athletic performance program in 5th-7th grade Requirements Qualifications: BS in Kinesiology or related field; a current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency (NSCA, CSCS); a strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training; experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for high school population; evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills. Additionally, the PE/S&C Teacher must: Display a personal and professional behavior reflective of the characteristics of a Christ-follower Reflect excellence in curriculum content, planning, alignment, and delivery Demonstrate expertise in instructional practices, management, and assessments Establish an engaging learning environment and positive student relationships Contribute to collegiality, community, and school expectations Professing Christian with a Biblically sound faith experience that is clearly communicated.Holding a core belief in Biblical integration within a framework of academics, with the ability to implement and expand such a framework. Possessing the ability to create, direct, and maintain a total program that provides continuity and training that prepares students for performances, competitions, etc. Leading through service, encouragement, and strength. Physical Requirements: Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs. Meet Safety and Health Requirements Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications. Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions. Knowledge of current NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
