We’re looking for a talented Head Chef to lead our kitchen at The Black Horse Beamish – a beautiful countryside pub, boutique accommodation, and versatile event space in the heart of County Durham. If you’ve got the skills, passion, and creativity to take our food offering to the next level, we want to hear from you.
Competitive Starting Salary of £40,000 plus achievable bonus structure.

ABOUT YOU

As our Head Chef, you will have:

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or in a similar leadership role within a restaurant environment.
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation methods, and kitchen equipment.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
  • A passion for hospitality with a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills with the capability to multitask effectively.
  • Culinary qualifications or relevant certifications are desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

As our Head Chef, you will:

  • Lead, train and inspire our kitchen team to perform at their best and deliver consistently high-quality traditional dishes.
  • Create seasonal menus that balance traditional pub favourites with exciting, modern twists we are passionate about local ingredients and suppliers.
  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen management – due diligence, stock control, stock takes ordering, and costings.
  • Manage the team through clear KPIs making decisions considering labour, stock and food safety requirements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene, safety, and compliance.
  • Play a key role in catering for weddings, celebrations, and corporate events.
  • Work closely with management to continuously develop our food offering and exceed guest expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with the front of house teams to ensure a seamless service.
