  • Previous experience as Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Senior Chef in nursery, school, education, or contract catering environments.
  • Confident designing balanced, child-friendly menus with a passion for children’s nutrition and well-being.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and compliance with food safety and allergen legislation for children’s settings.
  • Supportive leader with strong communication and organization skills.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to drive high-quality standards under time constraints.
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check required – we can assist with the application process if needed.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE – LEAD CHEF FOR CHILDREN’S NURSERY KITCHEN

  • Oversee the daily running of the nursery kitchen, ensuring smooth and efficient service for children and staff.
  • Design and prepare nutritious, age-appropriate menus, following early years nutrition guidelines and accommodating allergies or special dietary requirements.
  • Lead, motivate, and train kitchen staff to maintain high standards and teamwork.
  • Maintain rigorous food safety, hygiene, and allergen management processes in line with nursery regulations.
  • Order and manage stock, control wastage, and adhere to budgetary requirements.
  • Collaborate with nursery management and educators on themed days and special events.
