ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR HEAD CHEF – CARE HOME SECTOR

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Head Chef or senior kitchen role, ideally within care homes, healthcare, or similar settings.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness certification (required).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, train, and guide a kitchen team in a positive manner.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills to manage menu planning, rotas, and resident-specific requirements.
  • Experience catering to a range of dietary needs, including textured diets, allergies, and cultural preferences.
  • DBS clearance required (support can be provided for obtaining this).
Responsibilities
  • Take full responsibility for all kitchen operations, ensuring smooth and efficient meal service for residents and visitors.
  • Create, plan, and prepare balanced, seasonal menus that accommodate individual dietary needs, preferences, and allergies.
  • Lead, train, and motivate the kitchen team, fostering a culture of respect, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Manage ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships, working within budget guidelines and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, allergen, and health & safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming kitchen environment throughout each shift.
  • Work collaboratively with care home management and support staff to meet resident needs and support special events or occasions.
