JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Aero & Financial Institutions Risk role oversees the accurate credit assessment, analysis and due diligence of new and existing Airline (30% ), Aircraft Operating Lessors (10%), Insurance (15%), Bank and Non-Bank Financial Institutions (45%) obligor and counterparty exposures that can range from large, listed airlines, insurance companies and banks to small, thinly capitalised non-bank financial institutions (‘NBFIs’). The role holder will have extensive practical knowledge and experience of these sectors and will be responsible for managing all transactions from start to finish that fall within them. The role holder leads meetings and discussions on complex cases which may include novel features and secured structures – including negotiations with exporters and buyers - and oversees, and is ultimately responsible for, case work of the analysts within their team.
The role holder is also responsible for the credit risk approval of cases up to and including their delegated authority.

KNOWLEDGE
Significant knowledge (gained through experience) of structured and vanilla credit analysis:
- Excellent understanding of financial accounts including balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statements; detailed knowledge of adjustments to assess cash flow, working capital, liquidity and debt sustainability (A&I)
- Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of airline, insurance, and bank and non-bank financial institutions’ transactions; demonstrable track record of analysing, structuring and closing complex transactions (A&I)
- Ability to assess industry risk within unfamiliar / new sectors (A&I)
- Expert knowledge of a range of credit risk structuring and assessment tools for analysing qualitative and quantitative risk factors to produce probability of default ratings (PDs) and loss given default assessments (LGDs) (A&I)
- Detailed practical knowledge and understanding of transaction structuring including the use of covenants (A&I)
- Understanding of valuation techniques (A)
- Extensive experience of drafting and maintaining credit risk policies, procedures & frameworks, ensuring alignment with best commercial credit practice (A)
- Understanding and experience of typical banking products including loans or trade finance products (bonding, LCs, working capital facilities) (A&I)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (A)
SKILLS/ABILITY
- Ability to effectively manage, motivate and coordinate a sizeable team to work productively, efficiently and produce high quality credit risk research and analytical outputs in a timely fashion (A&I)
- Ability to interpret complex data to reach justifiable judgements (A&I)
- Capable of taking commercial decisions, appropriately balancing risk and reward (A&I)
- Proven planning and organisation skills to manage competing priorities meeting demanding deadlines in a timely fashion (A&I)
- Demonstrable analytical ability (A&I)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, which must include the ability to lead meetings and negotiations, conveying complex information clearly with confidence and credibility (A&I)
- Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues, within the division and across the Department (A&I)
EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable track record in credit risk from a bank, financial institution, operating lessor, rating agency or export credit agency (A&I)
- Experience of using credit risk rating models and advanced risk measurement techniques in an environment of conflicting priorities to meet tight deadlines (A&I)
- Recent relevant experience of producing, at a senior level, credit ratings and assessments for at least one of: sub-investment grade obligor in a developing market, non-rated UK entity (A&I)
- Recent relevant experience of producing Loss Given Default estimations (A&I)
- Proven track record of line managing and developing a multi-disciplined team (A&I)
- Extensive experience of working on large (>£100m) and complex cases (A&I)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- The role may require travel within the UK and overseas several times a year.
