Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a pro-active leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build relationships and deliver multi-stakeholder programmes of work?

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

Leading the team supporting the training of clinical academics across Imperial College and its partners.
Imperial College Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC) is a strategic partnership between Imperial College London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Cheslea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust Foundation Trust, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Cancer Research to strategically align research and education activities. The Clinical Academic Training Office (CATO), under the leadership of Professor Jeremy Levy, is a centralised pan-professional academic training hub and point of contact for advice and information on clinical-academic careers. CATO provides support for all clinicians planning or undertaking PhDs, those in lectureships, and all NIHR funded integrated academic trainees. CATO also supports nurses, midwives, AHPs, Pharmacists and Psychologists (NMAHPPPs) developing academic or research careers, from pre-doctoral to advanced fellows. It is also the training arm of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The CATO team comprises a Director, Deputy Director and four CATO co-ordinators.

As the Head of CATO programmes, you will:

  • Oversee and manage the strategic development, delivery and implementation of clinical academic training activities across the AHSC partnership
  • Manage the operational delivery of these initiatives through effective stakeholder liaison in the partner organisations and beyond, and through direct line management of the CATO team
  • Work with the CATO Director and multiple Senior Colleagues to oversee a portfolio of training activities
  • Enhance the clinical researcher experience and increase the number of clinicians (of all professions) engaging in clinical academic activities across the AHSC partnership
  • Lead on quality assurance of all CATO activities and funded fellowship schemes
  • Identify and develop opportunities to improve the clinical academic training experience at Imperial College AHSC
  • Be responsible for the delivery of existing CATO programmes including oversight of research fellowships, development and delivery of educational events and programmes, creation of research education materials and resources
  • Undertake data analysis and writing content for funding bids and providing formal reports to funders and AHSC partners
  • Drive forward cross-organisational opportunities using influence, personal drive and excellent project management skills, working with a wide variety of stakeholders internal and external to the AHSC
  • Broker and establish effective working relationships with staff across the AHSC including university research staff, educators, clinicians and senior managers in the NHS partner organisations.
  • Manage the CATO team day-to-day, and in annual planning
