JOB DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting and fast paced role shaping how HMG harnesses the opportunities of AI. The Prime Minister has put seizing the benefits of AI at the heart of national renewal, be it driving economic growth, or transforming working people’s lives by improving healthcare, education and how citizens interact with the state.
AI is transforming how knowledge and culture are created, accessed and rewarded. The UK’s copyright framework must evolve to keep pace – protecting creators and rights holders, giving businesses clarity and fair routes to access data, and enabling responsible innovation. Without clear, future‑ready rules, the UK risks both constraining our world‑class creative industries and falling behind in AI adoption.
This role puts you at the centre of that change. You will lead a high‑performing team to set strategy, develop policy and legislation, and forge partnerships across government, industry, academia and international counterparts. You will work closely with ministers and senior leaders, engaging stakeholders from AI and the creative sectors to deliver practical solutions that both incentivise human creativity and support the deployment of advanced AI.

NATIONALITY REQUIREMENTS

This job is broadly open to the following groups:

  • UK nationals
  • nationals of the Republic of Ireland
  • nationals of Commonwealth countries who have the right to work in the UK
  • nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities with settled or pre-settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
  • nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities who have made a valid application for settled or pre-settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
  • individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020
  • Turkish nationals, and certain family members of Turkish nationals, who have accrued the right to work in the Civil Service
