If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Head of creative social media to join our team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and we’d love to hear from you!
As the Head of social media creative you will work alongside the Head of social media content to lead a team within the Communications directorate that designs and delivers our social media strategy.
You will lead a team of content creators and channel managers to produce engaging social media content for MHCLG corporate channels, as well as leading the department’s content creator strategy that seeks to help government reach wider audiences.
As part of the press, social media, external affairs and visits team, you will work closely with other teams to identify opportunities to engage with audiences on the government’s priorities.
You will find and pursue opportunities to communicate about the department’s work to build more homes, improve the quality of living situations and devolve power out of Westminster to local leaders.
You will deliver a ‘social first’ approach to our online content, ensuring that channels are showing engaging posts that appeal to and inform audiences.
You will be a leader with a track record of working as part of a fast-paced communications team, managing risk, demonstrating excellent influencing skills, exercising strong judgement and problem solving, and someone who can develop and motivate a team while operating under pressure.
This role can be based in London, Wolverhampton or Bristol as our regional communications hubs. Regular attendance in London to support ministers and special advisers will be required in this role.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Head of Creative Social Media you will:

  • promote a “social first” environment, that motivates your team to deliver highly engaging content that cuts through to key audiences
  • lead the team in identifying key stakeholders and content creators with trusted audiences to maximise reach and relevance of key communications
  • ensure all content created and shared on corporate channels aligns with departmental priorities and provides accurate and informative updates for audiences
  • develop and oversee the development of a social media strategy based on insight and in support of the department’s wider communications objectives
  • be a confident representative of and advocate for MHCLG, representing the department at the Heads of Digital network within the Government Communication service and with digital leads at No10 and the Cabinet Office
  • lead an efficient, high-functioning team which provides expert social media advice at pace to ministers and senior leaders in the department and works across the Communications directorate to ensure this activity is aligned
  • play a leading role in the senior management team in MHCLG’s news, social media and visits function to ensure digital strategy is aligned with wider communications activity
