At Suffolk County Council, we’re using data to build brighter futures. We’re looking for a visionary Head of Service for Data and Intelligence to lead our Adult Social Care (ASC) Insight and Intelligence team in transforming how we use data to support our community. This isn’t just a job; it’s an opportunity to reimagine the possibilities and make a tangible impact on the lives of individuals across Suffolk.
    Your role and responsibilities
As the Head of Service for Data and Intelligence in Adult Social Care, you will lead intelligence, insight, and reporting, including statutory reporting. Your role is pivotal in taking forward our ‘People at the Heart of Care Strategy’, which focuses on independence, sustainability, people’s voice and quality for all adults supported by social care services in Suffolk.
Responsibilities
  • Providing analytical leadership across ASC, being a visible senior trusted expert on data and analytics
  • Managing statutory reporting while pioneering advanced analytics approaches, including data linkage across health and wider determinants of health data, the introduction of predictive analytics, the use of robotic process automation, and the potential use of AI
  • Use data to develop scenarios, evaluate interventions, and demonstrate the effectiveness of our services, ensuring we’re making a real difference
  • Presenting insight and intelligence within ASC to various decision-making forums, tailoring communications to meet the needs of diverse audiences
  • Leading a team of dedicated analysts to maximise their potential and deliver exceptional results
  • Developing and curating intuitive dashboards so that complex information is easy for staff to access, interpret correctly, and use
  • Working closely with teams and practitioners across ASC, and more widely within SCC and with key partners such as the NHS, to maximize the impact of intelligence in supporting teams and improving outcomes
  • Play a key role in preparing for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, showcasing the power of data in delivering high-quality care and outcomes.
Hybrid Working: You’ll need to be in the office 60% of your hours, with Wednesdays and Thursdays being key days for in-person management meetings.

You will need

  • A relevant master’s degree or higher in an analytically demanding subject, or expert-level operational experience in an analytical intelligence role
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with practitioners, teams and very senior leaders across ASC and SCC more widely
  • Experience in managing a team and working in a complex system in a time of change
  • High levels of analytical competence, including all Microsoft software packages and knowledge of analytical packages and languages, which could include MS PBI, R, SQL, and/or Python.
