WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking talent that will have experience of gathering, analysing, and reporting on large volumes of data, and who is comfortable using data visualisation tools to communicate insights. You will have significant project management experience within a customer service setting.
A summary of the most essential requirements are as follows (full details in the JD):
- Educated to a degree level and/or with relevant professional/industry experience
- Statistics / Data analytics qualification or equivalent
- Previous leadership experience especially with regards to strategy development and execution, using technology to provide solutions
- Experience of data management to produce reporting, dashboards, and analysis
- Experience of gathering and reporting on data using relevant data collection and visualisation tools
- Experience of project management within a customer service setting
- Knowledge of GDPR and associated processes
- Advanced Excel skills and practical skills in statistical analysis
- Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills; strong fluency in the English language

This is a Full Time and Opened-ended role and the candidate is expected to work flexibly, being on site an average of 3 days per week at our South Kensington Campus in London.

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a full-time Head of Data & Technology to oversee the next phase of our drive to personalise the student experience, optimise support for/reporting of student outcomes, and generate data insights to inform strategy. Imperial is made up of four faculties including the Business School which has an independent Careers & Student Life (C&SL) department supporting almost 3,000 UG, PG, and MBA students and 30,000+ alumni. In summary, you would be responsible for the following:
- Data & Technology team management and strategy: Work with senior management to refresh the C&SL Data & Tech strategy to underpin the objectives of the department and support the Business School’s 10-year plan and broader approach of the university. Guide and develop the team, manage resources, develop and monitor the Data & Tech budget.
- Data collection, review, reporting: Develop, refine, and implement a structured employment data process adhering to relevant standards and GDPR. Produce annual employment reports for all programmes at the School. Provide data for rankings submissions, spearhead the analysis of employment data to provide insights, informing strategy and delivery. Drive the reporting and analysis of student engagement data, including events, global trips, and student leadership activity, generating insights to further improve the student experience.
- Business intelligence: Drive the development of a metrics-based service for C&SL using business intelligence to influence short-term interventions, inform strategy and improve business processes. Create visualisation dashboards, bring data to life, and embed storytelling.
You will have significant experience of collecting, analysing and reporting on data using a variety of tools and will be tech-savvy with strong analytical skills. You will have strong leadership skills and be comfortable guiding change to positively impact strategic goals.
With a love for data and drive to support the student experience and the career success of students and alumni, you will engage with stakeholders across the Business School and wider university and a range of external partners.
WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
The Head of Data & Technology (C&SL) at the Business School will guide an established team that is responsible for the following areas of activity:
- Student outcomes data collection, analysis and reporting: gathering employment data from graduating students across all programmes, creating employment reports, generating insights
- Student engagement data collection and reporting: creating dashboards to enable increased reportable metrics, generate insights of students’ journeys to enable data-driven interventions
- Jobs market and data insights: analysing and reporting on job market trends, industry sector trends, cohort insights, rankings submissions data, regional employment trends, to support the objectives of the C&SL department and inform strategy more widely.
- Online platforms: deliver the key platforms that underpin the work of the C&SL department, including a Careers Management System and Student Community Platform
- eResources: deliver 14+ online tools/resources to support students with their career choices and enable their job hunting and career progression
- Online Careers modules: facilitate and deliver the suite of online Careers modules, supervise the onboarding of students to key C&SL platforms, ensure the delivery meets student needs
- Drive use of tech and info systems: enable work place automation, operating efficiencies, and tech advancements for the C&SL department. Ensure GDPR requirements adhered to.
- Student and alumni engagement: supporting incoming, current, and outgoing students, and alumni of the Business School across 19 programmes
- School strategy: enabling activity that drives an outstanding student experience, student employment outcomes, rankings outcomes, and alumni career progression
