Description:

We are currently looking for an experienced Head of Design to join our team in Taunton. This role is critical in leading our design and structural engineering teams, overseeing the entire design process from concept to completion, with a focus on innovative balcony solutions. The ideal candidate will be a skilled leader with a deep understanding of both production development and structural engineering, capable of ensuring that all designs meet both client specifications and regulatory standards.
As the Head of Design, you will collaborate closely with other departments, including sales and project management, to ensure design strategies are aligned with broader business goals. You will be responsible for developing and implementing creative design solutions, utilizing advanced materials, technologies, and engineering practices. The role also involves ensuring that all designs meet stringent safety and compliance standards.
You will lead the creation of detailed technical drawings, from initial drafts through to installation documentation, while working closely with clients to ensure their expectations are exceeded. An important aspect of the role will be mentoring and developing the design team, fostering a culture of creativity and professional growth. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing project timelines and budgets to ensure efficient delivery.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a senior design role, ideally within the construction sector, with a particular focus on balcony design and production using both steel and aluminium systems. A solid understanding of structural engineering principles is essential, as is proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD and Inventor. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are key, along with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of British Standards and warranty regulations, including NHBC, is required, as is familiarity with site-based construction and assembly.
In this role, you will be expected to keep abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and new materials that could impact the design and engineering process. You will also work closely with production teams to ensure smooth project transitions and efficient workflows. The ability to balance technical competence with commercial awareness will be essential to your success in this role.
If you are a motivated and confident leader with a passion for design and innovation, we would love to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our balcony solutions and drive forward new ideas in an ever-evolving market.
