As part of the largest banking group in Mauritius (MCB Group) and with over 187 years of history, MCB has built a strong reputation for innovation, customer-centric solutions, and financial stability.   Under its Vision 2030 strategic plan, MCB is pursuing a deliberate strategy of focusing on specialized, high-expertise niche segments across the African continent while also leveraging on its hubs in Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos, Paris and Dubai.   The Opportunity As Head of Digital Assets and Emerging Technologies, you will embark on a journey with our Customer Experience & Marketing SBU, where the shared ambition is to craft a brand that deeply resonates with its audiences, providing them with a simple, personalized, and meaningful experience.   You will report directly to the Chief Customer Experience Officer (CXO) and will have direct accountability over two streams: (1) the existing AI COE team, providing strategic direction and governance over the bank's artificial intelligence capabilities; and (2) a new Digital Assets team, responsible for building the bank's position in virtual assets, custody, blockchain, stablecoins, and tokenisation.   The role combines strategic vision with hands-on execution authority, interfacing with the Board, regulators, leadership team, lines of business, strategic partners, and clients.   Location: Mauritius preferred or hybrid Mauritius/Dubai   The Role Enterprise Strategy & Roadmap  * Define and continuously evolve the Emerging Technologies strategy and three-year execution roadmap aligned to enterprise priorities, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.  * Build and manage a structured innovation pipeline: use-case identification, prioritization, business cases, and scaling paths across lines of business. * Establish clear value-tracking for initiatives and report progress and portfolio KPIs to CXO/ governance forums.   AI Leadership  * Provide strategic directions to the AI team: adoption across business lines, operating model, prioritized backlog, and delivery governance.  * Drive responsible AI by embedding risk, model governance, and regulatory readiness into AI solution design and deployment. * Expand AI capabilities into high-value domains and ensure solutions meet customer and business requirements.   Digital Assets Leadership  * Create and scale the bank’s Digital Assets agenda including tokenization, custody, stablecoin-related propositions, partnerships, and future-fit solutions.  * Lead end-to-end product and solution development for Digital Asset services: target operating model, product architecture, ecosystem partner selection, and go-to-market coordination  * Monitor market and regulatory evolution and translate developments into actionable roadmap decisions.   Governance, Risk, Compliance & Regulatory Engagement (Portfolio-wide) * Embedded the governance framework for the Emerging Technologies portfolio: policies, controls, risk registers and compliance requirements. * Serve as a senior point of contact with regulators for emerging technology matters; ensure regulatory inquiries, examinations, and responses are coordinated and defensible. * Build/maintain procedures with Risk, Compliance, Legal, AML and Technology to ensure products and platforms meet internal and external obligations.   Stakeholder, Board & Ecosystem Leadership * Orchestrate internal alignment across CXO, CIO/, SBU heads, and control functions to enable efficient execution and scaling of initiatives. * Build and maintain strategic partnerships (technology providers, fintechs, custodians, blockchain networks, universities/innovation ecosystems) and represent the bank in industry forums as required. * Provide credible executive-level communication to senior leaders/board committees on strategy, progress, risk posture, and investment trade-offs.    Budget, Operating Discipline & Delivery Execution * Develop and manage budget plans in alignment with the CXO for roadmap delivery, including investment cases and resourcing plans.  * Establish delivery governance: portfolio cadence, project/program controls, resourcing allocation, and corrective actions when needed.   Organization & Capability Building  * Build a high-performing Emerging Technologies function: structure, role definitions, hiring plan, capability framework, and career paths across AI and Digital Assets. * Attract specialist talent and embed knowledge transfer through coaching, learning pathways, and local bench-strength development.   The Profile Education:  * Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as IT, engineering, or finance. * A Master’s degree ideally in AI, IT, FinTech, or business/ strategy would be an advantage.   Experience:  * 10 years of broad and deep experience in virtual assets, blockchain, stablecoins, and tokenisation. * 3 years of managerial experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and delivering strategic objectives.   Domain exposure: * Regulated financial services and emerging technologies (AI, digital assets/blockchain), including evidence of product delivery and governance in regulated environments.   A combination of both qualifications & experience will be considered.   Should this opportunity match your career aspirations, skills and competencies, click on ‘Apply’ to complete your online application.   Please ensure all required information is accurately entered in relevant sections.
