Description The Head of Elementary School at German International School Boston (GISB) works under the supervision of the Head of School and will direct the Elementary School section’s administrative and pedagogical planning, including all phases of instruction, educational programming and discipline for children in grades 1-4. ______________________________________ GUIDELINES AND FUNCTIONS: Teaching, Leadership and Strategic Lead and instruct one Elementary class, including oversight over After School Program staff in the Elementary School (in tandem with the Director of Co-Curricular Programming) Provide and maintain an environment where learning by all members of the Elementary School community is a highly valued activity Provide a safe, caring and productive learning environment that fosters well being, respectful behavior consistent with GISB values and mission Promote high standards of academic performance through rigorous and engaging classes Develop a curriculum that supports and enhances student achievement and success Encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with current research on learning and child development Maintain accurate records of student’s work and provide feedback to parents/caregivers Provide guidance to classroom teachers for larger disciplinary issues in the Elementary School, including conducting investigations Ensure faculty members provide clear and concise parent communication that reflects the School’s mission, policies and procedures Coordinate a variety of opportunities and events for families to learn about and engage as full partners in their child’s education Evaluation and Development Provide professional direction to the work of Elementary section faculty by helping staff set achievable professional development goals Conduct effective and timely supervision and evaluation of staff, including informal and formal observations of instruction practice Develop responsive programming to ensure success in school for students with special needs Operations Manage the day to day operations in the Elementary School to ensure activities on and off campus are conducted in a safe way for students and staff Manage the consistent and clear communication from the Vorschule staff to parents and caregivers Additional Duties Member of the Leadership Team Work closely with the Director of Co-Curricular Planning to ensure day and afternoon programs align Work with the Head of Vorschule and Kindergarten to coordinate curriculum and ensure programmatic alignment with staff, safety and curriculum Requirements 7+ years of Elementary School teaching experience Master's degree in Education or German equivalent High proficiency in both German and English At least English language level B2 Experience in a bi-lingual, international, or independent school setting Leadership experience Bicultural competence Strong management, organizational, communication, and strategic planning skills This position is open to OLK (Ortslehrkraft), ADLK (Auslandsdienstlehrkräfte) and residents of the United States. Visa sponsorship is available. Compensation Annual salary is determined by education and years of teaching experience per our salary grid. The range is from $85,329 to $98,512.04
